The National Center for Learning Disabilities did a survey and the outcomes were astonishing. Still over 40% of respondents relate learning disabilities with IQ.

Many more facts were revealed that once again underline the need for awareness about Learning disabilities. Many people don’t know the facts, don’t know the symptoms and so won’t be able to get their children the help they need to succeed.

Dyslexia? There’s an app for that

A 22 year old smart inventor from the UK is busy developing an app for dyslectic people. The aim is to create a downloadable app for smartphones that has a range of tools, such as changing font size and screen colours, to make websites more dyslexic-friendly.

The development of the app is supported by the British Dyslexia association. So watch your app store for more soon.

Procrastination and Dyslexia

On Dyslexia the gift blog, there is a great story that references a blog by the grammerly blog that explains procrastination, the reasons for it and some helpful tips. The blog goes on then to spell out the relation between dyslexia and procrastination and it will be very recognizable.

This quote will make clear how the procrastination works for our target group:

“My problem was that if I started a project by making a list, sometime I got so caught up in making the list, I’d forget about the project. And then I would revise the list, or decide to create a new list from scratch, or simply lose the list and have to start over. Rather than making headway, making lists became an additional mechanism for delay.  One with the added benefit at least allowing me to pretend I was making progress.  I hadn’t even begun the task… but look, I made a list!”

Dyslexia and OCD

Dr Wald talks in this video about the relation between Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Dyslexia.

Between one and four percent of the population suffers from OCD. Dr Wald talks about the relation with dyslexia. The video begins with lots of information on OCD first but at minute 9:15 the segment starts about Dyslexia.

He makes a few good points also about the relation between adhd and dyslexia. The program goes on to review the origin, the solutions, the various experts and their role in the detection of the reading disorder. Finally he points at the fact that the various disorders can look much the same but have totally different solutions and treatments.
