Having supported her third son, Prince Louis, as he dealt with dyslexia from a young age, the Grand Duchess knows only too well how parents and their children can suffer.

“Parents should not be discouraged,” the Grand Duchess said at a press conference, adding: “Louis was diagnosed late with dyslexia at the age of 10. What was impressive is that he managed to convince me during all this time that he could read, when he couldn’t!”

The Grand Duchess explained that the prince had such a strong memory and flair for creativity, he was able to find other ways to learn.

Microsoft tool to help Dyslectics

The company is releasing a new set of features for OneNote called “Learning Tools.” It’s an add-on that lives in your menu bar once it’s installed, giving students access to “advanced” dictation and an immersive reading mode.

Microsoft says that the tools should be helpful for people with dyslexia, because it includes several different things to assist with reading: speaking text aloud as the current word is highlighted, spacing out the letters to make them easier to follow, using a custom font called “Fluent Calibri” that Microsoft claims is easier to read, and parsing out both syllables or parts of sentences to clarify their sound and purpose.

free dyslexia training for teachers

The new Code of Practice states that all teaching and support staff should be trained and have awareness of quality teaching for students with SEN. Helen Arkell and Patoss, in association with The Dyslexia SpLD Trust have produced four webcasts. These webcasts and accompanying resources will support teachers and support staff in working with students with SEN.

Happy days and dyslexia

Actor Henry Winkler will come to Twin Falls in August to speak about learning disabilities and his own experience with undiagnosed dyslexia.

He’s best known for his role as Arthur Fonzarelli on “Happy Days” for 10 seasons, from 1974-84. Accolades include two Golden Globe awards and three Emmy nominations.

Winkler will speak Aug. 15 to Twin Falls School District employees during their opening day ceremony.
