Dyslexia before you are born?

Dyslexia: News from the web:

New research from the University of Helsinki suggests that humans begin to distinguish between sounds before they are even born. Eino Partanen and colleagues explored how prenatal experiences influence learning. “We wanted to find out what kind of material foetuses can learn in the womb, what kind of neural representations they form,” he said.

Can this be developed into any kind of therapy or intervention for infants? Partanen thinks so. Problems such as dyslexia, he thinks, could be approached at a much earlier level. Although there is no way of knowing whether a baby is going to develop dyslexia, with some degree there are factors that you can look into to see whether or not they are at risk. Dyslexia is partly genetic, for example. In this case, prenatal therapy could be developed for risk groups in order to facilitate learning.

Dyslexia: News from the web:

A new website has been launched with someone eager to help you figure how to help your child educationally, to figure out how meet his specific needs, and to help you create an educational synergy that will enable your child to learn successfully.  Whether you homeschool, doubt you can  homeschool, or really, really want to continue working with the school, you’ll need to make a plan for properly meeting your child’s educational needs.

They are developing a step-by-step guide for how to homeschool and/or help your child overcome learning disabilities. Thus, the site is not yet fully ready to provide you with the upcoming step-by-step guide.  However, updates are under way.

Early intervention with Dyslexia still key to success

Dyslexia: News from the web:

A new study of the genetic origins of dyslexia and other learning disabilities could allow for earlier diagnoses and more successful interventions, according to researchers at Yale School of Medicine. Many students now are not diagnosed until high school, at which point treatments are less effective.
