Computer test for Dyslexia

Dyslexia; News from the web:

Researchers at Canterbury University have developed a test that can accurately predict how well a child will be reading by the end of their first year at school.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Gail Gillon said researchers had devised a simple computer test which could “predict a child’s end of first year reading success with 92 percent accuracy”. The test could be used to identify pupils at risk of developing the language disorder dyslexia.

Dyslexia library online

Dyslexia News from the web:

We are not sponsored by Dynaread but we need to talk to you about them. This company, who offers reading remediation for children with Dyslexia in 200 lessons, has an extensive library online with information and resources related to the learning disability.

Now as reading is not the strong point from the target audience they have updated their site with Ivona Text-to-speech technology. When you browse their site you will be presented with a red “listen” button that will give you the story verbally. It sounds really well and probably as good as my talking GPS in the car.

In the library they offer articles, explanations and some videos.

The Genetic Basis of dyslexia

News from the web:

An understanding of the role of genetics in dyslexia could help to diagnose and treat susceptible children more effectively and rapidly than is currently possible and in ways that account for their individual disabilities. This knowledge will also give new insights into the neurobiology of reading and language cognition. Genetic linkage analysis has identified regions of the genome that might harbour inherited variants that cause reading disability. In particular, loci on chromosomes 6 and 18 have shown strong and replicable effects on reading abilities. These genomic regions contain tens or hundreds of candidate genes, and studies aimed at the identification of the specific causal genetic variants are underway.
