Nadine Gaab, a researcher at Boston Children’s Hospital and her colleagues used an MRI technique that could isolate particular structures in the brain with children 1 year or younger in kids who had a parent or older sibling with dyslexia, which gives them a 50 percent chance of having dyslexia themselves, the researchers found noticeable differences in the fibers that connect two key language-processing centers of the brain.

Here is an Oxford researcher who claims that a rich Omega 3 diet is key to fighting dyslexia.

The University of Oxford conducted a pilot study, which found that it was possible to improve the reading abilities of children by giving them supplements of DHA. A larger replication study is currently underway to try to confirm this finding.

We hear this story every week. A child is tested and borderline meets the criteria for additional resources from the school district and so the teachers (and parents) decide to sit and wait. Well here is some news for you:

Ninety percent of children who are struggling with reading, writing and spelling by mid-year of first grade will still be struggling with those skills in eighth grade and on into adulthood unless they receive specialized help, according to the International Dyslexia Association.

Is that clear now? Can we now move on and get the appropriate attention and help for our kids?
