another positive side of Dyslexia

We may all be familiar with the fact that people with dyslexia tend to get to do great things (start Virgin airlines, be the CEO of Apple etc). Jay Lenno is also someone who made it to a very rich and successful showhost  who came in the news this week by giving up voluntarily some $5 million of his salary to save jobs of his crew.

This is another positive side of people with dyslexia, the capability to think beyond one’s own needs and wants!

It is by now a proven fact that the early recognition of Dyslexia and early intervention are key  in improving the results at a later age. It is mind boggling to hear that still now in this day and age there is a lack of recognition by some governments. What are these people doing? How can they ignore the mountain of research and documentation?

Embracing Dyslexia

A kickstarter project that aims to produce a documentary named:”Embracing Dyslexia”.

In the directors words:

Embracing Dyslexia focuses on why it is important for educators and parents to know what dyslexia is and what it isn’t. We will learn what the tell-tale signs are and why screening for dyslexia early in a struggling reader’s life and being diagnosed is so important. We will hear from dyslexic children and their parents about the struggles they faced and the successes they’ve had after being diagnosed. Experts in the field of dyslexia will share the reasons why being diagnosed is only half the battle. We’ll see how some schools have taken the initiative and created classroom environments where dyslexic children can flourish. And we will visit with adults who have embraced their dyslexia and become quite successful.

Trading Dyslexia certificates

Apparently having a Dyslexia certification is a hot property these days with a hospital in Athens revealing a scam where a former employee produced fake certifications. People believe the certificates will either exempt their kids from exams, provide them with government benefits or other positives. This practice does not help the kids with real dyslexia as it will create a bias against the disability and make it even more difficult to get schools to provide facilities to overcome the problems that come with having Dyslexia.
