Pittsburgh goes after dyslexia

Legislation is being introduced to provide for a three year pilot program to evaluate the reading assistance programs in the school districts and provide early detection of dyslexia. The thinking is to catch dyslexia as  early as possible to avoid a huge gap in development.

No charter school for dyslexia in Pittsburgh

Dyslexia: News from the web:

The schoolboard in Pittsburgh turned down a pitch for a charter school for children with dyslexia. So the question is if this is bad news or that we should focus on helping children with dyslexia in our regular school system instead of separating them out in a special needs school?

Short animated movie on Dyslexia coming in late April 2014

Davies and Williams teamed up to create “10 Million Kids,” a reference to the 10 million American children with a learning disability (LD) such as dyslexia. The short film was created with a grant from the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation. Grammy Award-winning jazz musicians Omar Hakim and Rachel Z wrote the music for the film, and the animation is by Chris Brown.
