Between one and four percent of the population suffers from OCD. Dr Wald talks about the relation with dyslexia. The video begins with lots of information on OCD first but at minute 9:15 the segment starts about Dyslexia.

He makes a few good points also about the relation between adhd and dyslexia. The program goes on to review the origin, the solutions, the various experts and their role in the detection of the reading disorder. Finally he points at the fact that the various disorders can look much the same but have totally different solutions and treatments.

We may all be familiar with the fact that people with dyslexia tend to get to do great things (start Virgin airlines, be the CEO of Apple etc). Jay Lenno is also someone who made it to a very rich and successful showhost  who came in the news this week by giving up voluntarily some $5 million of his salary to save jobs of his crew.

This is another positive side of people with dyslexia, the capability to think beyond one’s own needs and wants!

Dyslexia support for Australians?

Australian parents insist there is a need to raise awareness about Dyslexia, and boost teacher training to ensure early intervention for dyslexic students. Dyslexia in fact is recognised under the disability discrimination.

The Government is promising to consider changes, including extra teacher training.

Education Minister Chris Bourke says a new group of parents and academic experts will investigate what is needed .

“I’m establishing a taskforce which is going to report to me with a work plan by the end of this year about how we can make any necessary changes that we need to do and also the kinds of extra professional development that we may need for our teachers,” he said.
