Procrastination and Dyslexia

Dyslexia; News from the web:

On Dyslexia the gift blog, there is a great story that references a blog by the grammerly blog that explains procrastination, the reasons for it and some helpful tips. The blog goes on then to spell out the relation between dyslexia and procrastination and it will be very recognizable.

This quote will make clear how the procrastination works for our target group:

“My problem was that if I started a project by making a list, sometime I got so caught up in making the list, I’d forget about the project. And then I would revise the list, or decide to create a new list from scratch, or simply lose the list and have to start over. Rather than making headway, making lists became an additional mechanism for delay.  One with the added benefit at least allowing me to pretend I was making progress.  I hadn’t even begun the task… but look, I made a list!”

Dyslexia scholarship

Dyslexia; News from the web:

Have you enrolled in college despite living with dyslexia? If so, Gemm Learning wants to help you keep pursuing your academic and personal goals.

We know that college can be a challenging and exciting time, especially for a student who once struggled with dyslexia. To encourage students affected to pursue higher education, Gemm Learning is offering a $1,000 Overcoming Dyslexia scholarship to one college student in the spring of 2013 and another student in the fall of 2013.

Students who have been influenced by dyslexia can compete for the scholarship by sharing their personal stories. Write an essay on the topic of “How I Overcame My Struggle with Dyslexia” to enter the competition.

Follow the link to their website and read how you can enter the competition and what deadlines and other formalities are. Gemm specializes in software and remote tutoring of the children. They don’t call it tutoring because they work on fixing the underlying issues rather than creating an ongoing string of additional instruction sessions.

Dyslexia library online

Dyslexia News from the web:

We are not sponsored by Dynaread but we need to talk to you about them. This company, who offers reading remediation for children with Dyslexia in 200 lessons, has an extensive library online with information and resources related to the learning disability.

Now as reading is not the strong point from the target audience they have updated their site with Ivona Text-to-speech technology. When you browse their site you will be presented with a red “listen” button that will give you the story verbally. It sounds really well and probably as good as my talking GPS in the car.

In the library they offer articles, explanations and some videos.
